What is Picosure?

Picosure is an advanced laser technology that treats unwanted pigment, tattoos and signs of aging. This laser system utilizes picosecond technology, emitting ultra-fast bursts of energy in picoseconds (trillionths of a second). These rapid pulses create pressure waves that effectively break down melanin, pigment and ink into tiny particles, while minimizing heat damage to surrounding skin.

The key to Picosure’s versatility is its use of specific wavelengths. This allows for targeted treatment of different pigment depths and colors, making it suitable for a variety of skin tones.

Additionally, Picosure stimulates collagen production, a protein crucial for skin elasticity and youthfulness. This results in improved skin texture and a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles.

  • Reduction of dark spots, sun spots and other types of discoloration
  • Minimized appearance of fine lines, acne scars and other blemishes
  • Improved skin texture and tone
  • Less downtime than traditional lasers
  • Effective laser tattoo removal with fewer treatments

Before & Afters

Picosure’s results can be observed progressively. After the initial treatment, you’ll notice a lightening of pigmented lesions and a smoother skin texture. Optimal results typically appear after a series of treatments.

Ideal Candidates for Picosure

Picosure is suitable for men and women of all ages, especially those looking to remove or lessen the appearance of:

  • Unwanted tattoos
  • Age spots
  • Sun spots
  • Hyperpigmentation
  • Skin discoloration
  • Sun damage
  • Fine lines
  • Acne scars
  • Benign pigmented lesions

However, Picosure treatments are not recommended for individuals with certain conditions like active skin infections, a history of keloid scarring, autoimmune diseases and those who are pregnant or nursing. It’s also advised to avoid Picosure if you’re currently taking medications that increase photosensitivity. A thorough assessment by a healthcare provider will determine suitability.

Your Picosure Laser Treatment

By following a few simple steps before and after your appointment, you can reduce the risk of side effects and enjoy the smoothest recovery possible.

Before Treatment

  • Consultation: Schedule a consultation with your provider to discuss your skin concerns, treatment goals, and whether Picosure is the right option for you.
  • Avoid Sun Exposure: Protect your skin from the sun and avoid tanning (including self-tanners) for at least 4-6 weeks before treatment to minimize the risk of complications.
  • Medication and Skincare: Inform your provider about all medications and skincare products you’re using, as some may need to be paused, especially those that increase photosensitivity.
  • Skin Condition: Ensure the treatment area is free from any active infections, outbreaks, or irritations.
  • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water leading up to your appointment to keep your skin well-hydrated.

Post Treatment

  • Skin Care: Follow your provider’s post-treatment instructions closely. This may include using specific gentle cleansers, moisturizers, and avoiding certain products.
  • Sun Protection: Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen SPF 30 or higher and avoid direct sun exposure to the treated area to prevent hyperpigmentation. Use protective clothing when outdoors.
  • Cool Compresses: Apply cool compresses or ice packs to the treated area if recommended by your provider to help reduce swelling and discomfort.
  • Avoid Heat: Stay away from hot baths, saunas, and excessive sweating (e.g., from vigorous exercise) for the first 24-48 hours post-treatment.
  • Expectations: Some redness, swelling, and slight discomfort are normal immediately after treatment. These symptoms typically subside within a few days. Follow-up treatments may be necessary to achieve the best results.

What to Expect from Your Picosure Treatment

Your journey with Picosure at Clinique AG begins with a detailed consultation. During this meeting, one of our skilled laser technicians will assess your skin concerns, discuss your aesthetic goals and determine if Picosure is the right treatment for you. This is an opportunity for you to ask any questions and understand how the Picosure laser’s many capabilities can be tailored to your needs.

On the day of your laser treatment, you’ll be welcomed into a comfortable setting at our Laval facility. The treatment area will be cleansed and a topical numbing cream applied to ensure your comfort. The picosecond laser will then be used on the targeted areas. You might feel a sensation similar to a rubber band snap, but most patients find it quite manageable. The procedure typically takes about 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the area being treated.

Recovery and follow-ups

Post-treatment, you can expect minimal downtime. Side effects after a Picosure laser treatment are considered mild and include temporary redness, swelling and blister formation. We advise avoiding direct sun exposure and using sunscreen to protect the treated area.

Results will progressively improve with each session, and we’ll schedule follow-up appointments to monitor your progress and ensure optimal outcomes. Our team at Clinique AG is committed to supporting you throughout your treatment and recovery, ensuring a smooth and satisfying experience.
